House in the Trees
A 1970s ranch house nestled among trees was transformed by SKM into a spacious 6,000-square-foot modern home for a family of four and their three large dogs.
Natural oak is used extensively throughout the interior—for floors, ceilings, beams, and custom cabinetry—bringing warmth and texture to the home’s minimal palette.
Two carefully integrated additions expand the original structure, creating a generous primary suite and a larger, more functional kitchen and gathering space. High ceilings and expansive windows in the kitchen and family room frame views of the surrounding landscape, allowing the changing seasons to become a backdrop to daily life.
A full-length deck extends the living space outdoors and strengthens the connection between the house and its wooded setting. Inside, a full-height stone-clad fireplace anchors the main living area, adding richness and a sense of permanence to the open interior.
